What to do during a 12 hour layover in San Fran

I woke up this morning around 3am. As I came to terms that I packed way too much, my parents dropped me off for my 6am flight to San Francisco.

 See ya, Philly!

See ya, Philly!

Obviously, I got no sleep on the plane. But it wasn't horrible. I made a friend who was also going to Auckland. He's staying with his uncle for a few months and trying to get a job, though. As for me, I'll be lucky if I stay in the same town for 2 days!

I spend the day today in San Francisco! A couple days ago, I texted my friend Jan's parents, Shari and John, to see if they'd wanna hang out with me and show me around the city a bit. I haven't seen them in a while and I figured they'd want to pop into the city with me (they live in the suburbs of San Francisco).

I made it to San Fran at around 8:30 am, walked around the airprt a bit, eyed up some fun toys in the duty free store, and brushed my teeth before I left to go into the city to meet up with Shari and John.

First big victory of this trip: figuring out the BART metro system. It cost me about $17 round rip from the airport to Embarcidero. They picked me up at the Ferry Building and we went right to the Golden Gate Bridge for a walk.

Shari told me how they've been in San Francisco for about 3 years and still haven't walked the bridge! Luckily, they had a visior in town that dragged them into the city and very much wanted to hike the bridge, too.

The bridge is a little over 1 mile long -- just what I needed between two long flights. It was pretty windy up there but it wasn't as cold as I thought it would be.

After we walked the bridge, Shari and John were wonderful enough to take me out do a delicious linner. Of course we went for seafood since San Francisco is famous for it. We went to a restaurant called Neptune's on Pier 39. Obviously it was delicious.

I miraculously made it back to the airport on my own and it is now 7:30 pm Pacific Time. Now I'm waiting for my flight to Auckland!

OK, I'm too tired to type anymore. cya.

Cheers,

Shelly
